ON VIEW NOW at CAMAC (Marnay-Sur-Seine, France)

‘Pleasurecraft’ is an installation centered around a boat outfitted with all the parts necessary to woo a potential lover with splendor and romance. A built in water wheel powers a gramophone setting the right tone for a romantic serenade. Luxurious pillows, a champagne cooler, and a tasteful book of poetry create a comfortable atmosphere. Going a step further, a kit discretely built into the boat’s seats provides the suitor with all the accoutrements of a ‘proper’ afternoon tryst. Responding to the pastoral surroundings of Camac’s pictoral location on the river Seine in the French countryside, ‘Pleasurecraft’ questions the human agency in constructing the pictoral imaginary and an ethnographic examination of our species’ mating rituals.
